Frequently Asked Questions

What happens to the cord blood once it is donated?

The blood is processed within 48 hours of delivery and it is stored in cryogenic freezers. Small amounts of the blood are sent out for bacterial and fungal culturing and two weeks later, if the results are negative, a small sample is sent out for HLA typing. After typing, the unit is placed on a database and released to the international registries to be made available to all transplant centers and anyone in need worldwide.
