History
Babies for Life (BFL) is a public non-profit 501(c)(3) organization offering pregnant mothers an easy way to donate their baby's umbilical cord blood for people in need of a life-saving stem cell transplant. A life-saving link to his or her mother while in the womb, the umbilical cord is no longer needed after birth. Miraculously, contained within the cord after delivery are thousands of adult stem cells which have the potential to save other lives or provide therapy for certain diseases. Babies for Life was born from an idea of coordinating the generosity of parents who wish to donate their baby's umbilical cord blood with hospitals, medical providers and blood banks, in order to increase the public registries of available stem cell units.
Mission
BFL's mission includes education-based programs aimed at the public regarding alternatives to stem cells. All units obtained are provided to registries whose sole purpose is for the treatment of illness, injury, or disease. Some units are available to research facilities who will utilize the stem cells for ethical life-saving technology.
Babies for Life is a non-profit organization established to foster the adequately widespread collection and storage of cord blood stem cells to satisfy current scientific research and public storage needs.
