Baby products have grown wildly in the market as they are highly demanded by caring parents. They’re claimed to be very beneficial for parents, especially couples on their first parenthood experience. No doubt these baby products both serve for the parent and baby very well. But there are some specific products recalled for the adverse that caused trouble on the tot.
Here are some of the products you should utterly never opt on. As you first look on these products, they may seem safe and harmless. But you’ll be comprehended as to why you should never buy one as you filter the pros and cons of such product.
Drop-Side Cribs is A Big No
Drop-side cribs are designed to give parents easy access to the baby without the struggle of bending low to reach over the child. The crib has one or more sides that slides down. The concept was bright, but the delivering of the idea is terrible. Drop-side cribs were associated with over 32 deaths since year 2000 and hundreds of reported incidents, as to why the product has been recalled by the U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission. The face-palming incidents are due to suffocation and strangling of the baby on the moving sides. Instead of using Drop-side cribs, why not use a crib with fixed sides? After all, bending to reach your child is not the hardest thing ever as to assure your child’s safety.
The dome-shaped tents are designed to keep the baby from climbing out of the cribs. As your child grows, they might explore the skills of their cute little fingers and start poking the mesh. Crib tents are made of fine mesh that can easily grow large once poked. When your child tries to climb, the chances of getting trapped or tangled is high and this may cause suffocation. Instead of using crib tents, why not buy your child a toddler bed?
Infant Bath Seats
Infant bath seats were specifically designed to be a child’s little chair to assist parents when bathing the little tot. Seems harmless but no. There were 174 deaths and over 300 incidents between 1983 and 2009 associated with these infant bath seats, as reported by CPSC. You can use hard plastic baby bathtub instead. And one last quick tip, never leave your child unattended while on bath.
Bumbo seats has a contoured design and is one of the top baby products being bought. The concept of this colorful seats is to help infants maintain a sitting position before they are fully able to sit upright themselves and it allows parents to play their child on play with, read to, or feed their child on the floor. But as innocent as they can be, infants always love leaning, arching, or rocking that caused infants falling off the seat. More than 45 incidents were reported by the CPSC.
Sling carriers lets parents snap up their babies close to their bodies. This is to help parents carry their babies as if they are carrying a bag – and that’s the bad thing about it. The infant may get too pressed on the parent’s body and may cause suffocation.
These are just some of the products that gives false security and treacherous benefits. But to look intently, these products can put your child’s life to risk. Other things you should be aware of is center tables (harmful for toddlers crawling or learning to walk) and blankets and pillows that may smother the infant. All of these products are meant for giving ease both for the parent and child, but they can be used unsafely or in a thoughtless manner.
